The UK's population is aging less rapidly than other countries such as Germany and Japan but still long term care and care fees funding is a big dilemma in the UK.
According to the Office for National Statistics, in 2009 16 per cent of the population in the UK were over 65.
The country used to have one of the most aged populations in Europe in 1985 but this is no longer the case, with Germany and Italy ranking as having the worst in 2009 with 20 per cent.
